Study of Jeremiah
Chapter 48

Jer 48:1)
Of Moab. Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Woe unto Nebo! for it is laid waste; Kiriathaim is put to shame, it is taken; Misgab is put to shame and broken down.

(Jer 48:2) The praise of Moab is no more; in Heshbon they have devised evil against her: Come, and let us cut her off from being a nation. Thou also, O Madmen, shalt be brought to silence: the sword shall pursue thee.

(Jer 48:3) The sound of a cry from Horonaim, desolation and great destruction!

(Jer 48:4) Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.

(Jer 48:5) For by the ascent of Luhith with continual weeping shall they go up; for at the descent of Horonaim they have heard the distress of the cry of destruction.

(Jer 48:6) Flee, save your lives, and be like the heath in the wilderness.

(Jer 48:7) For, because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou also shalt be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity, his priests and his princes together.

Moab was the nation that was used of Balaam to get Israel to sin. It was the king of Moab who at one time wanted God to curse Israel and he even hired Balaam to do it. Because Moab was a kin to Abraham through Lot, Israel was not allowed to touch destroy the Moabites like they did other nations. God, however allows the Chaldeans to wipe all of them out and even brings a curse upon those that would spare Moab.

Their sins are finally being judged. They even become ashamed of Chemosh which is their idol. They realize this idol has not power to save them from the Chaldeans.

(Jer 48:8) And the destroyer shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape; the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed; as Jehovah hath spoken.

(Jer 48:9) Give wings unto Moab, that she may fly and get her away: and her cities shall become a desolation, without any to dwell therein.

(Jer 48:10) Cursed be he that doeth the work of Jehovah negligently; and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.

Babylon was not to be negligent in doing the will of God. That will at this time was the destruction of Moab.

(Jer 48:11) Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remaineth in him, and his scent is not changed.

(Jer 48:12) Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will send unto him them that pour off, and they shall pour him off; and they shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles in pieces.

(Jer 48:13) And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth-el their confidence.

(Jer 48:14) How say ye, We are mighty men, and valiant men for the war?

(Jer 48:15) Moab is laid waste, and they are gone up into his cities, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, saith the King, whose name is Jehovah of hosts.

(Jer 48:16) The calamity of Moab is near to come, and his affliction hasteth fast.

(Jer 48:17) All ye that are round about him, bemoan him, and all ye that know his name; say, How is the strong staff broken, the beautiful rod!

(Jer 48:18) O thou daughter that dwellest in Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst; for the destroyer of Moab is come up against thee, he hath destroyed thy strongholds.

(Jer 48:19) O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and watch: ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth; say, What hath been done?

(Jer 48:20) Moab is put to shame; for it is broken down: wail and cry; tell ye it by the Arnon, that Moab is laid waste.

(Jer 48:21) And judgment is come upon the plain country, upon Holon, and upon Jahzah, and upon Mephaath,

(Jer 48:22) and upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beth-diblathaim,

(Jer 48:23) and upon Kiriathaim, and upon Beth-gamul, and upon Beth-meon,

(Jer 48:24) and upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near.

(Jer 48:25) The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith Jehovah.

(Jer 48:26) Make ye him drunken; for he magnified himself against Jehovah: and Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.

Moab was lifted up in pride and boasted against God and probably thought He would keep on ignoring it.  We think that today.  We think we are okay and can keep on ignoring God and His word, thinking that it really doesn't matter.  If we could only see how important God's word really is.  If we could see with God's eyes we would see things a whole lot differently.

(Jer 48:27) For was not Israel a derision unto thee? was he found among thieves? for as often as thou speakest of him, thou waggest the head.

(Jer 48:28) O ye inhabitants of Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock; and be like the dove that maketh her nest over the mouth of the abyss.

(Jer 48:29) We have heard of the pride of Moab, that he is very proud; his loftiness, and his pride, and his arrogancy, and the haughtiness of his heart.

The saying that pride goes before a fall is coming to pass in this passage.

(Jer 48:30) I know his wrath, saith Jehovah, that it is nought; his boastings have wrought nothing.

One who boasts, boasts in vain. God is greater than any.

(Jer 48:31) Therefore will I wail for Moab; yea, I will cry out for all Moab: for the men of Kir-heres shall they mourn.

(Jer 48:32) With more than the weeping of Jazer will I weep for thee, O vine of Sibmah: thy branches passed over the sea, they reached even to the sea of Jazer: upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage the destroyer is fallen.

(Jer 48:33) And gladness and joy is taken away from the fruitful field and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to cease from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; the shouting shall be no shouting.

(Jer 48:34) From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh, even unto Jahaz have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, to Eglath-shelishiyah: for the waters of Nimrim also shall become desolate.

(Jer 48:35) Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith Jehovah, him that offereth in the high place, and him that burneth incense to his gods.

Their idolatry will cease.

(Jer 48:36) Therefore my heart soundeth for Moab like pipes, and my heart soundeth like pipes for the men of Kir-heres: therefore the abundance that he hath gotten is perished.

(Jer 48:37) For every head is bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands are cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth.

(Jer 48:38) On all the housetops of Moab and in the streets thereof there is lamentation every where; for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein none delighteth, saith Jehovah.

(Jer 48:39) How is it broken down! how do they wail! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab become a derision and a terror to all that are round about him.

(Jer 48:40) For thus saith Jehovah: Behold, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread out his wings against Moab.

(Jer 48:41) Kerioth is taken, and the strongholds are seized, and the heart of the mighty men of Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

(Jer 48:42) And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against Jehovah.

Here is the main reason for all their destruction. They magnified themselves against Jehovah God. Magnify means to promote oneself. They promoted themselves against God.

(Jer 48:43) Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith Jehovah.

(Jer 48:44) He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon him, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith Jehovah.

(Jer 48:45) They that fled stand without strength under the shadow of Heshbon; for a fire is gone forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and hath devoured the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.

(Jer 48:46) Woe unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh is undone; for thy sons are taken away captive, and thy daughters into captivity.

(Jer 48:47) Yet will I bring back the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith Jehovah. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.

The hope here is that Moab is to be part of the restoration in the latter days.

This is Old Testament prophecy. Most of these events took place at the time of Babylon in the days of Jeremiah. Jeremiah was a prophet sent to warn the people of what was to come. In the beginning of Jeremiah's ministry, the people of Judah had a chance to repent and thus avoid the judgment of God.

In today's world we see the same things going on as in the days of Jeremiah. Surely, if God judged them He will judge all those who do the same things.

Today we are without any excuse for sinning against God. We have much more preachers and teachers of the word of God than ever before in history. We have the written word of God in every bookstore. The Gideons and other organizations give them away for free. Since Jeremiah's time, God sent His only Son into the world to bear the iniquity for all our sins. He showed us all how to be saved from the wrath to come by believing in the sacrifice the Son of God, Jesus Christ came to make for us. He showed us how to receive eternal life so that we no longer have to fear death.

When God has given us so much, we are now without excuse for continually rejecting Jesus Christ and ignoring God's word.

Surely, as judgment came to Moab, Babylon, Israel, Judah, Egypt, and other nations who rejected God and did evil in His sight, judgment will also come to all nations who know not God.

Just as Moab magnified itself against God, we see many that do that very thing today. The ACLU magnifies itself against God or any symbol that man has used to represent God and one day the ACLU will be no more.

All nations and leaders of nations that persecute or hurt any true believer in Jesus Christ will come under the judgment of God if they do not repent. It will happen just as the sin is going to rise tomorrow.  No the Christians they fear will not lift a hand against them, their judgment will come from Almighty God himself.

Evolutionists, you dare to teach young children that God does not exist and we came into being by accident, unless you repent, you will come under the judgment of God for lying to innocent children.

Abortionists, unless you repent you will come under the judgment of God for murdering thousands of babies.

Homosexuals unless you repent, you will bear the judgment of God for daring to go against the word of God that forbids that practice of men with men and women with women. God did not create us that way and He made a way for you to escape that lifestyle and it begins with REPENT and believe the gospel. You can be free from sin and become Born Again.

I'm here to tell you the truth in the only way I know how. Please listen, especially those in the United States. I don't know how much time we have left but surely, if God judged Sodom, He will judge us who have defiled our land with abortion, sexual immorality, forbidding the teaching of God in the schools while allowing the teaching of evolution and many other things to many to mention  The biggest sin of all is unbelief though; unbelief for not believing in the one God sent to save us from our sin.  The sin of unbelief is what causes all the rest of the sins mentioned before.

You are allowing the ACLU to slowly rob people of their expression of faith in Jesus Christ. They are trying to silence the gospel. I know they don't realize that as yet, but that is what Satan is using them to do. Satan knows that if he can silence the message of the gospel he can gain power over this country and destroy as many souls as he can. If he can use the ACLU or any other organization to silence the gospel and then persecute the ones who refuse to be silenced, then he can deceive and cause all to follow him on the way to hell and eternal torment. Jesus Christ whom you resist is the only way to be saved from sin and escape hell. Jesus Christ came that we might escape the judgment of God for sin and inherit eternal life. The very one the ACLU wants to remove from all symbols, seals and signs is the very one who can save as many that would believe on Him.

I am warning all who may listen, that if we in the USA continue on the path that we are going, we are doomed to be destroyed either by a wicked nation being allowed to come in and rule over us denying us any freedom to make our own choices and decisions or by total destruction some other way.

How do I know this??? Did God reveal this to me in a dream or vision? NO. All one has to do is read the bible. What was sin then, is still sin today. What God judged in the Old Testament is still facing judgment today. Read Revelation and see. Make fun of prophets of doom all you want but it will surely come to pass.

God doesn't even have to send judgment, we are destroying ourselves and taking away our own freedoms by ignoring God and casting away any remembrance of God from our society. Without His hand of protection the enemy will come in like a flood. We cast away the presence of God by ignoring His word. His word warns us against the very sins we do. If we don't do it ourselves, we sit and watch others do it on Television. Surely it can't last much longer. Those who are claiming they are fighting for freedom by taking a cross of a city seal, is fighting against the wrong things. Take God out and the wicked one comes in the backdoor. If you don't teach your children the right things, the devil will teach them the wrong things. Judgment is coming if we do not repent. It may hit the economy first. If the economy is getting bad, don't blame George Bush or any other president.  God's judgment is coming and because of our greed, lack of thankfulness, and ignoring what God has blessed us with in this country.  God allowed us to have freedom of religion and a good life here and we have rewarded Him by casting Him out of the public schools and now we are allowing the ACLU to take every symbol, the ten commandments, the cross and the bible out of the public arena.  We have ignored God long enough and His message is the same now as then. Just repent and turn back to God. Laugh ACLU, go ahead and laugh at me, but your laughter will turn into mourning.

Laugh, all of you who do not believe and make fun of those who do, but your laughter will turn into grief.

Luk 13:1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
Luk 13:2
And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
Luk 13:3
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Luk 13:4
Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
Luk 13:5
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Luk 13:6
He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
Luk 13:7
Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
Luk 13:8
And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
Luk 13:9
And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

God delays judgment to get people to repent, not to ignore our what we do and allow us to get by with sin. He doesn't want to send judgment but He will have to eventually.  His word says so.  This is not me talking.  The word of God tells us that unless we repent and accept the only way of salvation, we will die in our sins.  It is plain.

Joh 8:21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
Joh 8:22
Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
Joh 8:23
And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
Joh 8:24
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

If we do not believe that Jesus is "HE" the one God sent to save us from our sins, we will die in our sins.  To die in sin is to be lost in hell for eternity.  This does not have to be.

Joh 4:13
Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
Joh 4:14
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

That everlasting life is for all who turn from sin and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
