Silent When Accused

Prophecy

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. Other ref. (Ps 38: 13,14)

Fulfillment

Mt. 26:62,63 And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answereth thou nothing? What is it which these witness against thee?

But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. Other ref. (Mt. 27:12-14)

 

Smitten and Spat Upon

Prophecy

Isaiah 50:6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

Fulfillment

Mark 14:65. And some began to spit on him, and to cover this face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands. Other ref.(Mk. 15:17; Jn. 19:1-3; 18:22)

 

Was Hated Without a Cause

Prophecy

Psalm 69:4. They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away. Other (Ps. 109:3-5)

Fulfillment

John 15:23-25. He that hateth me hateth my Father also. If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

 

Suffered In Our Place

Prophecy

Isaiah 53:4,5. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (Is.53:6,12)

Fulfillment

Matthew 8:16,17. When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and he healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. (Rom. 4:25; 1 Cor. 15:3)

 

Crucified with Sinners

Prophecy

Isaiah 53:12. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Fulfillment

Matthew 27:38. Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left. (M,. 15:27,28; Luke 23:33)

 

Hands and Feet Pierced

Prophecy

Psalm 22:16. For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. (Zec. 12:10)

Fulfillment

John 20:27. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. (Jn. 19:37; 20:25-26)

 

Mocked and Insulted

Prophecy

Psalm 22:6-8. But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

Fulfillment

Matthew 27:39,40. And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, and saying, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save theyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. (Mt. 27:41-44; Mk. 15:29-32)

 

Given Gall and Vinegar

Prophecy

Psalm 69:21. They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

Fulfillment

John 19:29. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. (Mt. 27:34,48)

 

Hears Prophetic Words Repeated in Mockery

Prophecy

Psalm 22:8. He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

Fulfillment

Matthew 27:43. He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

 

Prays for His Enemies

Prophecy

Psalm 109:4. For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer. (Is. 53:12)

Fulfillment

Luke 23:34. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

 

His Side to be Pierced

Prophecy

Zechariah 12:10. And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Fulfillment

John 19:34. But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

 

Soldiers Cast Lots for His Coat

Prophecy

Psalm 22:18. They part my garments among them and cast lots upon my vesture.

Fulfillment

Mark 15:24. And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take. (Jn. 19:24)

 

Not a Bone to be Broken

Prophecy

Psalm 34:20. He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken. (Ex. 12:46)

To be Buried with the Rich

Prophecy

Isaiah 53:9. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

Fulfillment

Matthew 27:57-60. When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock.

 

His Resurrection

Prophecy

Psalm 16:10. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. (Mt. 16:21)

Fulfillment

Matthew 28:9. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them saying, All hail, and they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. (Luke. 24:36-48)

 

His Ascension

Prophecy

Psalm 68:18. Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the Lord God might dwell among them.

Fulfillment

Luke 24:50,51. And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. (Acts 1:9)
