(Psa 2:1 KJV) Why
do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
In Psalm one we read about the comparison between the ungodly
and the godly. It was very encouraging to
show the best choice is the godly route in life.
In Psalm two it gives us a glimpse of a promised savior to come.
In verse one we see that his coming causes the heathen to rage. His coming causes them to imagine that they
can destroy the works of God by their threats and actions carried out against the Son and
His anointed ones. Those that reject
truth will usually be very angry with those who try to preach the truth.
In Psalm one we see the result of living ungodly, in Psalm two
we see a more severe judgment against those who reject Jesus Christ.
Rulers and kings rise up against the Lord and those that
represent the Lord. Notice how the
majority of governments do not appreciate true preachers of righteousness. There are exceptions of course but as a rule
they prefer the religious leaders that work with them and go along with their agendas and
do not go against the flow. We must
remember that we cannot possibly please God and people at the same time.
The period of time here in this Psalm was many years before
Jesus Christ came unto the earth. We see here
that this is a prophetic psalm having to do with the rejection of the son of God and also
a rejection of those who are anointed to continue the work of Jesus Christ.
(Psa 2:2 KJV) The
kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD,
and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast
away their cords from us.
The attitude of those in authority in the days of Jesus Christ
was to cut off those who preached the gospel.
To kill, jail, and stop the gospel from spreading.
Their first victim was Jesus Christ himself and then some of the
apostles. However, Jesus Christ rose
from the dead ushering in a new covenant of grace.
He offers an escape from sin, forgiveness of sin and eternal life to
all who will receive him as Lord and savior. This
gospel is a threat to those who are comfortable in their own religion. Whether that religion is manmade or whether it is
a religion that they think is God-made, the gospel cancels out all others. This causes strife and trouble. This is why they do not want religion in
schools. It causes trouble. It stirs hearts.
It changes lives. It makes a
difference.
The gospel is different from other religion in that it cancels out
the debt of sin that we have confessed and put away under the blood of Jesus Christ. It is different also because God supplies a
new Spirit. This new spirit is given to each and every believer. This spirit enters into our innermost being
and cries out to God continually. This
same spirit convicts of sin, brings us to repentance, changes our desires, gives us power
over sin, makes us different.
If we find ourselves going back into the same old sin that we
were saved and delivered from, then we are not walking in the spirit and have lost our
first love for the Lord that we once had. We
must stop, confess our sins and renew ourselves in the Holy Ghost to get back to that
place where Christ is first.
(Psa 2:4 KJV) He
that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
No matter how the heathen rage and try to destroy God's people,
their efforts are in vain. God knows their
end and it doesn't make God fear and tremble. The
moment a believer is put to death for the gospel's sake, he or she is ushered into the
very presence of God. He or she is forever
with the Lord and there is nothing or no one that can ever hurt them again. They have everlasting life and at the
resurrection they will receive a new body that cannot die or be destroyed.
Those that persecute and destroy God's people on other hand, if
they fail to repent and come to this same Christ they fight against, will suffer eternal
punishment in hell apart from God or any relief.
They may look like they are winning presently but they are not.
(Psa 2:5 KJV) Then
shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
Vengeance and judgment comes upon the unrepentant. It will
especially come upon those who hinder others from hearing the gospel.
(Psa 2:6 KJV) Yet
have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
The one rejected by man becomes the king and ruler of all. The stone which the builder’s rejected has
become head of the corner.
(Psa 2:7 KJV) I
will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I
begotten thee.
Here is the prophecy concerning the Son of God, Jesus Christ. He is the only begotten Son of God. This is a
glimpse of the coming of the Son of God into flesh. He
became one of us. He was born of a virgin
without the help of natural man. He was born
by the spirit and by a miracle. Here we see a
peek at the future coming of our Lord and savior.
(Psa 2:8 KJV) Ask
of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of
the earth for thy possession.
The rejected Son of God will one day inherit the whole earth. Those that rejected him will one day bow before
him. He will be supreme ruler and a judge.
(Psa 2:9 KJV) Thou
shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's
vessel.
The first coming of Jesus was humble, meek and mild. The second coming of Jesus will be powerful. He will bring vengeance and judgment to those who
do evil. Evil and sin will be broken off once
and for all. The Lord will reign upon
the earth with no opposition. This is the
only time when there will be one who will rule in righteousness. There have been many who tried to rule the whole
world. They only caused trouble and their
end was disastrous. The Lord will reign
in fairness and in righteousness. We
must not ever accept a world ruler from among men. His
coming must be according to the bible. He
comes from heaven and with power. Until
then men must have limited rule because if they try to fulfill the shoes of Jesus Christ
there will be tremendous suffering even more than the suffering we see now upon the earth.
(Psa 2:10 KJV) Be
wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
There will be other kings upon the earth but they will serve
Christ.
(Psa 2:11 KJV) Serve
the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
They will serve the Lord in fear and will rejoice. Being in Christ and serving him brings joy. Misery comes when we reject and refuse the word of
God. To yield to God is a blessing and brings
joy.
(Psa 2:12 KJV) Kiss
the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a
little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
Why does God get angry when we reject His son, Jesus Christ?
First of all, remember God didn't have to save mankind. At the fall of Adam sin and death came upon all
flesh. All born after Adam was born in sin
and the body had to die. The soul dies
eternally in hell. Before Christ came
there were two compartments in hell. One was
for the righteous, believers in God who looked forward to the time when they would be
redeemed by the future Messiah (Christ) the other compartment were for those who did evil
and rejected the law of God or God himself. The
whole human race was helpless to save themselves.
Then God sent his son.
1 John 4:10 Herein
is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the
propitiation for our sins.
God sent his son, Jesus Christ to be born of woman; he became
flesh and lived among us. He went his
whole life without sin. This had to be. If he had of sinned just once he could not have
been a perfect sacrifice for us. He would
have been flawed. In the Old Testament a lamb
sacrificed upon the altar as an offering for sin, had to be perfect without spot or
blemish. After Jesus went about
preaching the gospel and healing the sick proving to the multitudes that he was the savior
sent to save them, he then gave himself to be offered up for our salvation. He died for all of our sins and thereby took the
punishment for every sin that we ever committed, no matter how vile. When we refuse this free gift of eternal
life from God it is like slapping God in the face. Yes,
this would make him angry. The agony and pain
Jesus went through and also the fact that in his body his took every ugly sin committed by
mankind from the beginning of creation. He
paid for it by his life and his shed blood.
He arose again so that all who believe in Him might have eternal life
and be as he is. Blessed are all those
that put their trust in Him. He is
everlasting and He is eternal. God offers us
so much:
- Forgiveness from sin
- A new birth
- The Holy Spirit to abide with us
- Freedom from Sin
- A constant comforter and companion
- Eternal Life
If we reject all of this for a few years of sin and pleasure on the
earth, we are nuts. We can choose
eternal death in hell where the soul does not die or eternal life where the there will
never be any pain or death again. Which
will you choose?
