The Holy Spirit

Dwelling in those who believe in Jesus Christ

Ezekiel 36

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

When the Holy Spirit abides within us who believe, there is a desire to love God, please God, and live by the word of God. There will still be temptations to fall away from that desire, but if we resist those temptations steadfast in faith and with determination to live for God, we will desire to please God deep in our hearts. Sin will grieve us, the word will delight us and we will have understanding that the highest college degree could not ever surpass.

John 14

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

"I will not leave you comfortless, I will come to you. "

The Holy Spirit is God coming to us after God the Son, Jesus went back to heaven after His resurrection. He did not leave any believer without His presence. The fearful, unbelieving and skeptics of this world are like that simply because they do not have the Spirit of Truth abiding within them. The Holy Spirit is the one who witnesses to our spirit about the reality of God. He is the one who makes us to understand that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. He is the one who gives us understanding of the bible and witnesses within our spirit that it is the true word of God.

I personally know of a lady who is uneducated and cannot read but by the Holy Spirit she can read the bible. I believe in my heart that she does not have any trouble understanding it either. A book written under the influence of the Holy Spirit also has to be understood by the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

This is what makes the difference in a believer and a non-believer: the Holy Spirit. Why is the world in such darkness? Why are they looking for an alternative reason for the existence of the earth and its inhabitance? It is because they have not the Holy Spirit to open their eyes to the truth. They cannot see the creator because they do not want to see Him. Try to explain this to an Atheist and he will not understand. They do not understand faith or the work of the Holy Spirit. How do I know? I have tried. They are empty inside and do not want to find God. The minute they begin to desire to see and understand God, then the Holy Spirit will be their to guide them to Jesus Christ. He may use another believer, He may use the bible, the radio, television, Internet, tract or some other method but I sincerely believe people who want to know God will be able to.

1 Corinthians 3

16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Our natural bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit. We have no right to destroy or defile this temple. This is one reason why we should abstain from sexual sins and immorality. We belong to God and have no right to defile the temple He gave us for the Holy Spirit to dwell within.

1 Corinthians 6

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Unlike what the modern feminist movement says, we do not have a right to do with our own bodies what we choose. We do not have a right to choose. We were created by God and have no right to destroy our own bodies or the bodies of little unborn babies. We will answer to God for what we do in the body. He made our bodies for the Holy Spirit to dwell in. We are not to defile it. We who have accepted Christ as savior now belong to Him. We were paid for by the shed blood of Jesus Christ and are not our own.

2 Timothy 1

14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

The good things, which we have received from God, the word of God and the presence of God is now kept within us by the Holy Spirit. He gives us light and understanding. By Him we now live, move and have our being. We are never alone anymore.

1 John 2

27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Many of us depend too much on someone to teach us the word and do not let the Holy Spirit teach us. This takes time. We have to seek God sincerely and with all our hearts and open our hearts to the guidance and instruction of the Holy Spirit. This probably does not mean that we never listen to anyone teach or preach anymore, but it means that we now have the Holy Spirit to witness to the truth of what we hear taught and preached.

It is much easier to open a bible commentary than to pray, seek, trust, and allow the Holy Sprit to teach us. I'm not against opening the commentaries. I have many myself but to just take someone's word of it and not allow the Holy Spirit time to speak is to rob ourselves of learning straight from the throne of God. He will be our teacher if we allow Him to be.
