Zechariah 3

Notes on Zechariah 2

Zec 2:1 I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.

2 Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.

3 And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,

4 And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:

What a day that will be. One day Jerusalem will dwell safely without walls, without guards. A multitude will dwell safely. They will not be surrounded by enemies. All will be at peace and rest. The Lord Jesus Christ will be ruling and reigning on the throne. This is a prophecy of the future Messiah's reign over the whole earth. This will occur at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

5 For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

This reminds me of the time God led Israel out of Egypt with a pillar of a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Israel was protected from any and all enemies at that time.

6 Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD.

7 Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.

This prophecy jumps back to the immediate fulfillment when God delivered Judah from Babylonian captivity and restored their temple at Jerusalem. This was only a temporary fulfillment and not the complete fulfillment. Their nation was not completely restored as it was in the days of David the King. They still were under the rule of the Medes and Persians, later the Grecians and then the Roman Empire.

This has a complete latter day fulfillment which started in 1948 when the nation of Israel was reborn and the fulfillment will be complete at the coming of Jesus Christ a second time.

  1. For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.
  2. Imagine being the apple of God's eye. For some reason this is how God feels about Israel and also about adopted Israel. When we believe and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and savior we become spiritual Israel. We are adopted into the family of God by faith. We do not take the place of the natural branches of Israel. We add to them. Anyone who persecutes or hurts a child of God, is in a dangerous position unless they repent.

  3. For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me.
  4. God will bring vengeance upon nations that mistreat his chosen people.

  5. Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.
  6. This prophecy has to refer to the New Heaven and the New Earth when God the Father will come down from heaven to dwell with us. I am looking forward to that day. Even so come heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.

  7. And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee.
  8. All nations will serve the Lord Jesus Christ. How different will be the attitude of men and women in that day. There will be no nonsense about no prayer in school. No ACLU will try to throw out the Ten Commandments and rule them unconstitutional. They will not even be in existence. The Lord will rule. This will be a divine rule, a literal rule and not man made. We cannot force this into existence and try to have an earthy one-world government. We are not to try to do this before the coming of Christ in ourselves. There will be some that will try to do this but they will be in error and may even be part of the anti-christ and the beast kingdom. Have nothing to do with an earthy one-world government. That government will tumble and fall at the coming of Jesus Christ with all His saints.

  9. And the LORD shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.
  10. He will choose Jerusalem again. This shows that their have been long years of Jerusalem being apart from God and out of His will. The separation between Israel and God will be ended at the literal coming of Jesus Christ the second time.

  11. Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.

Even so come Lord Jesus let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
